Ingredients:

– 2 cups granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup whole milk
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
– 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:

1. In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, milk, butter, and salt.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
3. Once boiling, continue to cook for 3 minutes without stirring.
4. Remove from heat and immediately stir in vanilla extract and chocolate chips until smooth.
5. If desired, fold in chopped nuts.
6. Pour the fudge mixture into a greased or parchment-lined 8×8 inch pan.
7. Let it sit at room temperature until firm, about 2 hours.
8. Once set, cut into squares and serve.
